SPRMRKT Amsterdam is coming back!

With so many shops disappearing from Amsterdam lately it is great to hear that one of the most iconic stores SPRMRKT AMSTERDAM is coming back to town this Spring/Summer! Keep an eye on the Instagram account @sprmrktamsterdam and founder @nellekestrijkers account. And have a look here to see what I wrote over 10 years ago when visiting the store when it was located at Rozengracht.

Studio Piet Boon designs Omoda flagshipstore | South area

Dutch successful shoe retailer Omoda developed its vision for a luxury flagship store in the atmosphere of a luxury hotel or restaurant together with Studio Piet Boon. This week the flagship store (the twentieth Omoda store) opened at Van Baerlestraat and I visited their festive opening party.

Menage a Trois Amsterdam | Nieuwmarkt Area (CLOSED)

Menage A trois is a new fashion initiative in Amsterdam by AnneMarie Kramer, Bridgitte Kleyn and Vanessa Tersteeg and can be found within the Droog Design building, one of Amsterdam's finest stores to discover Dutch design and grab a coffee or glass of wine in the Droog cafe, or if the weather is nice wander through the Rossana Orlandi-esque garden. When visiting Droog the other day my eye caught the huge black Limited edition ceramic tulip vase by Eduard Hermans at the all new Menage A Trois store in the back of the ground floor.

At Menage a Trois you will not only find fashion brands like Rick Owens, Maison Margiela and Y/Project but also a handpicked collection of art and beauty objects. I was immediately sold by both the collection and the atmosphere in the store, and also really happy to see my favourite French brand Mad et Len represented at the store. The furniture consisting of sculpture like objects is designed in collaboration with product designer GuidoToonen.

ETQ Amsterdam | Spui Area (CLOSED)

ETQ Amsterdam was born under the mindset of eliminating over accessorized branding and focusing primary on letting the quality of the product speak for itself. With three standard rules: elegant, timeless, and quality the brand, that was born as an idea in 2010 as a men's footwear label, now offers an array of clean, sophisticated and affordable products for both men and woman crafted by hand in a small factory in Portugal. 

I visited their store in Amsterdam housed in a huge raw, yet elegant,  space with lots of concrete where especially the huge blocks with different accessories and leather cushions caught my eye. More info about the brand can be found at the website ETQ Amsterdam

OntFront menswear for the badboy & gentleman | Haarlemmerbuurt area [CLOSED]

Dutch menswear label OntFront openend their first brand store in Amsterdam on the Haarlemmerdijk 121. On Amsterdam Next I love to write about great concepts, interior design stores ... some food and beautiful interiors, so even if I discover a store I would never buy anything for myself, the interior can have something that caught my eye. At OntFront it was the dark mood and the Espresso brown walls that caught my eye. At the entrance a large picture of a Zazou is portrayed: a dapper rebel from Paris in 1944,representing everything that OntFront stands for: style, music, originality, vision and creativity. 

OntFront is contemporary designer brand for men, founded by the passionate entrepreneurs Tomas Overtoom and Liza Koifman. Next to the collections of OntFront, you will find labels such as Barbour, Filling Pieces, Retrosuperfuture, Etudes, Daily Paper, Souve, Brixton and Pasotti Ombrelli. You can also find a classic bebop hat, tie, or bow tie. All must haves, to go through life as a modern Zazou.

Laundry Industry Flagshipstore | Spui area

I have always loved Dutch fashion label Laundry Industrie because of their strong black and white appearance and often popped in at their former store at Rokin. They recently opened a 550 sqm flagship store in the former society and landmark building 'Concordia' on Sint Luciënsteeg 18. A great spot almost, next to the Zara on high-street 'Kalverstraat' and 'Nieuwezijds voorburgwal' from where it's a 5 minute walk to the nine streets.

With this new store Laundry Industry offers a new shopping experience from fashion to selected items for your home and other iconic pieces, I fell in love with the tables made out of steal and oak. The building has been renovated beautifully and as an Amsterdammer I love the fact that from wherever you are in the shop the large windows allow you to look outside during shopping, giving you a sneak peek of the entrance of the 'Amsterdam museum' and the stained glass windows of the building across the street.

On the ground floor you find the mens department and a small coffee bar is situated in the corner of the iconic building that carries a large history and was used as headquarters just after the 2nd world war to one of Holland's famous newspapers de Volkskrant. Upstairs you will find the Laundry Industry collection for women and a channel-ish corner with a beautiful stylish lady at the back. As an interior lover I was surprised by their not so average home and deco collection consisting of pieces in concrete, steal and glass.

FoA. Fragments temporary store | Pijp area

End of Januari First of August opened FoA.Fragments at Gerard Douplein 15, a temporary space where the multiple elements of First of August come together: a Store, Stock&Sample Sale and Showroom. I popped in the other day and not only fell in love with their bags collection but also loved the space, an overall white ambience with a dark black painted ceiling. FoA temporary store is open till the 1st of March!

First of August is an Amsterdam-based fashion company of Karlijn Boersma. She graduated at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute and gained a Master degree in Cultural Sociology, with a strong focus on the relation between fashion and sociological trends. The inspiration out of moments in Karlijn’s daily life assembled into the three elements that First of August exists of today; a clothinglabel FoA, an online store and a platform FoA. Academy. & Other Stories | Swedish fashion | Munt area

Yesterday & Other Stories Amsterdam opened it's doors downtown! The Swedish brand, another daughter of H&M is a beautiful addition to the small Heiligweg street where other cool brands such as Diesel, Scotch & Soda and lately also All Saints are located.

The two floor store has the same 'Scandinavian' look and feel as the shops I visited in Stockholm and Copenhagen. Tiles, squared paper & objects under glass, marble, blond wood and lots of plants. & Other stories collection is build around inspiring fashion stories, their lines are from masculine tailoring to feminine chic and designed to create your own story.

Felice 'Home of brands' | Pijp area

It is not every day I enter a store feeling really inspired... the kind of place where you love everything you see, do not want to leave anymore, and at the same time want to run home to just start all over again and redesign your home from scratch! I am thinking of an amazing new bathroom, sliding doors and handmade cupboards.

Not really strange really if you imagine that Felice 'Home of  brands', designed by Bas van Kampen, thinks the interior design is one of the most important parts of the store. Dominated by a huge table, showing a collection of fashion, accessories and shoes |Felice is also the name of the shoe label by his partner Anne Uyen| the place feels sophisticated and raw at the same time and everything is for sale, from the kitchen, beautiful in 'concrete' material, more about that next week on Vosgesparis if you are interested! and copper, to the floor and curtains.

Hope | 9 straatjes area

Hope is a Swedish fashion brand created in 2001 by designers Ann Ring Strand and Stefan Söderberg. Hope's signature style is low key, raw and authentic, supporting "an easy move in everyday life" and offering a well-dressed and relaxed look. The first shop out of Scandinavia openend last week in one of the most trendy shopping area's the 9 straatjes | Nine streets  

The interior design concept of  the new store is called 'Swedish Modern' and inspired by Swedish designer Axel Einar Hjorth and the simplicity found in the shaker style furnishings. Having no furniture attached to the walls, created the possibility to decorate the room with Minerite art panels by Dutch Petra Blaisse and her team from Inside Outside. The store has a collection for men and woman, shoes, bags, and home accessories.
