Restaurant De Kas | East area

Restaurant De Kas is located in Amsterdam Watergraafsmeer at the beautiful recreational Park Frankendael and located in a set of greenhouses which date back to 1926 and used to belong to the Amsterdam Municipal Nursery. The restaurant is surrounded by its own gardens where the owners grow most of the ingredients used in their fixed menu, based on the harvest of the day.

Generator Amsterdam | East area

I have some good memories of sleeping at the Generator in London and always loved staying there as it was a really affordable option on a good location for that time in my life. Generator Amsterdam will open in March in the Eastern part of town located in a former zoological university building. Close to the city centre, the new upcoming east area and the Oosterpark with the grand cafe De Tropen just around the corner.

Flexible and spacious social areas, filled with creative design from Dutch designers like Blom & Blom, Mooi and Studio Job, their wallpaper by NLXL can be found throughout the building. The former lecture hall is turned into an impressive chill-out lounge and bar, while the old library is now a relaxation and private events room. The basement and café are now dining destinations and the original boiler room has become a secret late night bar.

The Generator can accommodate 564 guests in 168 twin and quadruple rooms with incredible views on the surrounding and en-suite bathrooms. There is also one luxury apartment for six people with views of the park and a self-catered kitchen.

The Cool Collective | Oostpoort | Oost

Love to show you some new pictures made today at the The cool collective, located at Oostpoort, the shopping area in the Eastern part of town. Lots of new stores are opening in East and over the last week I have been looking around to see what stores are interesting to cover on the blog and  the APP and I hope to show you some more over the weekend.

Although there are only a few selected interior and home decor brands and the store is really big and has a pop up kind off feeling, it has a nice vibe and worth visiting if you happen to be in the area.

A good place for affordable fashion brands, lifestyle and vintage furniture by the Sample Club, ICatchyJan&Jacob and Frederik George who will have his workstation in the store making beautiful bags. Find brands like French Connection, Stoned Marble, Van Os Vintage Furniture Amsterdam, Monsak and Komoni.

Grand Café ‘De Tropen’ | Oost area

Saturday September 5 Amsterdam Oost's newest hotspot will open it's doors. Situated in The Tropenmuseum, one of Europe’s leading ethnographic museums, Grand Café 'De Tropen' will be a lively hotspot with a terrace directly at Oosterpark. The cafe will be open for coffee, healthy sandwiches or Asian and couscous salads for lunch and dinner. I won't be there that day but will share some real pictures asap! | Pictures added with thanks to the Tropen

The interior of 'De Tropen' is designed by Studio Piet Boon, respecting the historical elements of the building he found the right balance between park, recreation and the Grand Cafe. A large dark green bar with impressive museum pieces in the middle of the restaurant connects the cafe with the museum, the light flows in through the large windows which offer a perfect view on the park. Piet Boon is also responsible for the renovation of the rooms of the prestigious Mariott Hotel

Ashes to Snow Hair atelier and gallery | East area

The Eastern part of Amsterdam is welcoming many young entrepreneurs lately. One of them are the owners of Ashes to snow, an hair atelier with a relaxed, artistic atmosphere where you will also find selected design, objects and art pieces from like-minded creatives from various disciplines.

The gallery presents, promotes and sells the work of young artists, photographers, designers and craftsmen. You can get you hair done by one of the stylists but also pop in for a coffee and a read and enjoy the various exhibitions and installations.

At the moment we visited them to make these pictures, almost six months ago, the Dream Scapes | Memory Lapse exhibition with photography by Ramona Deckers and Liza Nijhuisthe
was displayed in the totally white space, a beautiful contrast with the huge window that is covered with black paint, an amazing environment!
