Back in a semi quarantaine situation in Amsterdam since last week and with most of us working from home again, there is also some positive news to tell. For all you design enthusiasts looking for a place to work outside the home or organize an appointment on location, there is Venu.The super stylish Amsterdam-based lifestyle and work place for creatives and entrepreneurs "Designed with a difference and filling the gap between work-in-cafe culture and exclusive co-working spaces driven by membership" says Yulia Nikitina who is the brain behind the idea of Venu which she launched a few weeks ago together with her business partner Olga Konovalchuk at Haarlemmerdijk. 

After talking often online, I finally had the chance to visit in between working mainly outdoors and from home. I do love to meet and work outside and like most of us know the feeling when looking for a place to meet and work outside, to often end up at dull decorated spaces or busy cafes where it is difficult to have a conversation. None of that at Venu, because the design has been well thought out and for everyone who reads my blog, the space is filled with furniture by brands you also see mentioned here on the blog. Think Menu, Stellar Works, &Tradition and artists like Bram van der Beke. 

  

Rooms and reservation options

Venu offers a range of spaces, from private group spaces, solo or one-to-one set-ups, communal areas, the beautiful mezzanine and petite terrace rooms. Membership isn’t required at Venu, except a reservation fee of 4 Euro per hour to secure your place of choice for the duration that suits you. All seats are placed with the 1,5 rule in mind, to let you work in a safe environment. Knowing Yulia as a real coffee connoisseur, excellent coffee by Single Estate coffee roasters is served, as well as cold drinks and beautiful  sweet bites.  Saturdays are reservation free

Grand & Johnson Studio and Conceptstore | Old West

Although I really dislike the over-tourism that has hit Amsterdam in the last few years. I still believe there is an amount of visitors and of course locals interested in other things than what we dislike and did not miss during lockdown. Such as beautiful coffee places, outstanding restaurants and hotels and of course my favourite subject: Design in the city! It has been five years since I first wrote about one of my favourite Amsterdam based Studio and conceptstore: Minimalistic yet rich -spectacular yet sober With their brand new location just across the former smaller studio and store Grand & Johnson created a beautiful experience in the monumental and industrial tram depot 'De Hallen'.

The Grand & Johnson concept fully comes to life in the 420 m2 showroom where design, art and accessories are combined with brands like Molteni, Agape, JEE-O, Bert Frank and more. As well as the collection made for Grey7, lighting for Maretti and a kitchen concept for Sohl, more about that later! Grand&Johnson explains: 'The showroom where everything comes together, in which we show what is possible. Fragrances, colours, materials, details; everything created to take you into our story. A small world in itself. To let you experience what is possible and to feel what suits you. To be amazed." 

On the mezzanine the design studio, founded by Bertel Grote and Jeroom Jansen who share a passion for interior, art and design and complement each other in the necessary areas of the company.  Grand & Johnson has grown into a team of interior designers and product designers. With attention for detail they realize perfectly balanced residential interiors and public environments.
