A hotel with a WOW factor | Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam | Eastern Docklands

Definitely build on one of the best hotspots close to and with an amazing view on the Amsterdam city centre is the new Jakarta Amsterdam hotel. With its huge tropical courtyard that was realized in collaboration with the Hortus Botanicus, the hotel can proudly call herself the greenest hotel in the Netherlands. It is located on the Java Island near my own home in the Eastern Docklands and an inspiring location where you can sleep, eat, drink, work and relax. A meeting place for hotel guests, local residents and Amsterdammers... I discovered an amazing spa and pool in the hotel! There are more public spaces like the Café Jakarta with a sunny terrace, a lounge and bakery with espresso bar.

The special architecture and the eye-catching interiors give the hotel a huge wow factor. In the interior, industrial elements are combined with modern-Asian accents. In the hotel there are various works of art from Indonesia from the national collection of the Tropenmuseum. The hotel is built in a sustainable way and many energy-saving measures have been applied, such as collecting rainwater for watering the courtyard, solar energy and more.
Café Jakarta with the sunny terrace on the south. On the first floor there is a comfortable lounge, Bakery Westers with espresso bar and WellCome Wellness Amsterdam with swimming pool, sauna and steam bath. All facilities are accessible to both hotel guests and guests from outside.

Boutique style rooms
Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam has a total of 200 hotel rooms The 168 boutique style rooms (30m2) have an intimate, warm atmosphere of bamboo wood and feature Indonesian accents. They have an indoor balcony and are equipped with all modern conveniences. The 26 junior suites are slightly larger (30m2 - 38m2) and have a French balcony. The 6 luxury suites (from 40m2) are located in the tip of Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam and have a 180 degree view over the IJ, the center of Amsterdam and Amsterdam-Noord.

Salt Water Amsterdam small store & cafe | Haarlemmerdijk

A mix of the Far East and France probably discribes Salt Water Amsterdam, the store of Malaysian born Wanting Choo, best. After having lived in different places around the globe she is now combining her passions for art and design and her love for the ocean and natural products in Salt Water Amsterdam - a city she now lives in.

At Salt water you will find a selection of well-made clothing from independent designer brands in small quantities. Organic, handmade and well-designed home goods, and vintage objects collected from her travels.

Wanting: "We discover inspiration where we may. We provide a space where you can come have a coffee, browse unique items we found around the globe and get inspired to create art in any forms. Be it a sketch, a photograph, or even a beautifully written love letter. Why not?"

Kauf Dich Glücklich Conceptstore | Jordaan Rozengracht area

Raadhuisstraat, just behind Dam square walking in the direction of the Jordaan area and Rozengracht just welcomed another great concept, with stores as Bolia, Pelican Store, We are labels and X Bank at Spuistraat and Magna Plaza where you can find Sissy Boy in the basement the small area behind the palace offers a nice shopping area away from the over crowded Kalverstraat and Nieuwendijk.

These are the kind of stores that are not only good for the tourist who likes to shop downtown but also for us, the locals who are kind of tired of seeing the inner city and beautiful canal belt changing into an entertaining area with little eye for the original inhabitants. Let's hope Raadhuisstraat will not be the next area where cheese shops (just go to the Supermarket to get your cheese) or Nutella stores (it's not a Dutch thing!) will follow.

This first store of the German concept Kauf mich Glücklich in the Netherlands offers a curated selection of products. Women's fashion, men's fashion, home accessories, natural cosmetics, jewelry, books, stationery and much more. With great attention to detail, all stores are build by the team of Kauf Dich Glücklich who started their concept and first store in Berlin and now proudly run 20 stores around Germany and Austria.

A new design Motel | Motel one at the Waterlooplein area

Amsterdam has many hotels, one more exciting then the other maybe but definitely new and cool you may call the new Hotel from the Motel One group. I had the pleasure to join the press event some time ago and loved the design of the hotel by Piet Hein Eek. Inspired by the nearby Waterlooplein and its popular flea market, the design concept of the Motel One Amsterdam – Waterlooplein draws heavily on the idea of up cycling totally fitting the work of Piet Hein Eek.

The One Lounge was created with the help of this internationally renowned artist Piet Hein Eek and demonstrates how antiques and used items can be combined to establish a whole new character. Featuring walls covered with old windows, doors and cabinets, chandeliers that have been assembled from lights purchased at flea markets, and a fantastic workbench with specially created table lamps, the lounge is sure to spark your creativity and invite you to linger.

Rembrandt, our famous Dutch painter lived a stone’s throw away from the design hotel in the Rembrandt House, and his style of contrasting light and shadows can be seen in the One Lounge. Natural and handcrafted materials round off the design concept of the affordable Motel One Amsterdam – Waterlooplein.

How to Hox | Hoxton hotel event

Last month we were part of the Design event at the Hoxton hotel, a really nice informal day with different workshops and interesting panel talks. The Hoxton is such a nice place even if you are just popping in for a coffee, lots of people came especially for the event and many walked in for a bite, a drink and design inspiration.

A day filled with lots of interaction, next to run the interior design blog
vosgesparis for over ten years, I am co-founder of w/ Style and together with co founder Wen from BeeldSTEIL I took care of the styling and were part of the panel talk. It is always interesting to hear how other people live and what choices they make for their own home and being able to inspire others.

The event location is really colourful and I loved to see how we changed the look by bringing in soft colours, natural materials and a good dose of black with selected items from FramaMoebePaper CollectiveJust RightPillah

Travel Products Selected w/ Style
I think we all have things we love to take with us when travelling and for the occasion of the event we selected some of our favourite items and handy products we personally love.

I often take my laptop with me and love the leather goods by
SPRDLX, I do not only use a laptop cover but really love to use different smaller bags which are handy to keep your business cards and cables ordered on the go. No need to say I am a huge fan of the travellers note book, this one we borrowed from Miscellaneous also the address for the Frama and Moebe products we showed if you live in Amsterdam, I use them in different sizes, not only the bigger notebook but also the small passport size comes in really handy.

Different products also from the travel selection of Nomess with the Konjac sponges being my all time favourite. Watches from
Leff Amsterdam, including their small speakers in the Nomess perspex boxes and skin care products from Amsterdam based Marie Stella Maris
