SPRMRKT Amsterdam is coming back!

With so many shops disappearing from Amsterdam lately it is great to hear that one of the most iconic stores SPRMRKT AMSTERDAM is coming back to town this Spring/Summer! Keep an eye on the Instagram account @sprmrktamsterdam and founder @nellekestrijkers account. And have a look here to see what I wrote over 10 years ago when visiting the store when it was located at Rozengracht.

There is always something happening in town, and I really wanted to show you the wonderful pictures Silvia made of the project of Taturo Atzu on the roof of the oldest church in town. Silvia is an Italian photographer and we previously worked together on some blogpost for my interiors blog Vosgesparis and an article about Amsterdam Next, that will come out at the end of September.

These pictures were made during a photo shoot on the roof with Tania, a jewellery designer from Sydney. You can see those pictures on Silvia's website, and maybe you love a photo shoot with her yourself, she made some lovely portraits using Amsterdam as a backdrop!

Japanese artist Taturo Atzu is internationally renowned for his temporary art projects which transform our experiences of monuments, statues and architecture. Atzu's first public project in the Netherlands centres around the historic weather vane and the small roof turret, with the Angelus Clock, of the Oude Kerk.

Come Closer is a series of public gatherings on the roof of the Oude Kerk. The evening programme, running from August 13 to September 6, brings together thinkers, musicians, artists, Amsterdammers, neighbourhood residents, and the curious up in art installation “The Garden Which is the Nearest To God”

by Japanese artist Taturo Atzu: a panoramic terrace with a spectacular view over Amsterdam. In the midst of a city in motion, Come Closer offers a moment of reflection. For 12 evenings special guest speakers share a new perspective, a unique story or a performance with the public. High above the city in the open-air, a sort of contemporary hagenpreek (open-air sermon), Come Closer invites you to listen, look, experience, think collaboratively and to speak up. Ashes to Snow Hair atelier and gallery | East area

The Eastern part of Amsterdam is welcoming many young entrepreneurs lately. One of them are the owners of Ashes to snow, an hair atelier with a relaxed, artistic atmosphere where you will also find selected design, objects and art pieces from like-minded creatives from various disciplines.

The gallery presents, promotes and sells the work of young artists, photographers, designers and craftsmen. You can get you hair done by one of the stylists but also pop in for a coffee and a read and enjoy the various exhibitions and installations.

At the moment we visited them to make these pictures, almost six months ago, the Dream Scapes | Memory Lapse exhibition with photography by Ramona Deckers and Liza Nijhuisthe was displayed in the totally white space, a beautiful contrast with the huge window that is covered with black paint, an amazing environment!

Photography Pop up store till February 1st | Conservatorium Hotel

Till February 1st, Kahmann Gallery, the Amsterdam gallery specialising in Fine Art Photography opened a Popup gallery at the Van Baerle Shopping Gallery in the beautiful Conservatorium Hotel. 

Downstairs online gallery MAG shows a collection of the most beautiful editorials in magazines like; Vogue, Esquire, ELLE, JAN, and others who were shot by renowned photographers such as Paul Bellaart, Eric van den Elsen, Carli Hermes, Marc de Groot and Photo Floor.

The Pin Gallery | A pop up concept

Urban art show {live your life}

A few weeks ago I went to see the Urban Art house exibition near my home... In an industrial warehouse next to cafe Roest, a variety of artists show their work. A mix op pop, street and media art, vintage interior design and fashion.

Today at the Eastern Docklands Open Ateliers | Amsterdam unplugged

When can I move in was the first thing that came in mind when visiting  the studio of Glass artist Phillippa Edwards and textile designer Sabin Kech. 

I met Sabine at 'Open workshop day' last month. I visited this warehouse, near my house, where many studios are located and was blown away by the beauty of their studio. Bright white walls, the beams and industrial leftovers... Born on one of the Amsterdam canals I grew up with water.

And now Living in the Amsterdam Docklands is something I really love. Not only for all the water and the enormous feeling of space right in the middle of town. But what I really love is the history of the area. From here big passenger and cargo ships left to the former Dutch East and West Indies, the Americas and Africa. The whole area is full with renovated historical buildings and warehouses. I do my daily shopping in a former cacao warehouse and bicycle into the city center along the quaysides of the former harbor. I think you can imagine that living in this industrial historical environment is something I enjoy every day!

Wanneer kan ik erin was het eerste dat bij mij opkwam bij het bezoeken vanhet atelier van Glas artiste Phillippa Edwards en textiel designer Sabin Kech. Ik ontmoette hen tijdens de 'Open atelier route' vorige maand. Ik bezocht pakhuis Wilhelmina, vlakbij mijn huis,  waar veel kunstenaars hun atelier hebben en was meteen weg van bovenstaande studio.. mooie wit gestucte muren, balken en industriele details.



Geboren aan een Amsterdamse gracht ben ik opgegroeid met water. Dus wonen in de voormalige Amsterdamse haven is iets waar ik heel erg van hou. Ik geniet elke dag van het water en het ruimtelijke gevoel zo vlak bij de binnenstad. Vooral de historie van het gebied vind ik geweldig... al boodschappen doende in een voormalig cacao pakhuis , kijk je uit op de kades waar vandaan vroeger grote passagiers en vracht schepen richting Oost en west Indie, Amerika en Afrika vertrokken en fiets je langs diezelfde kades richting binnenstad.
