Going to Amsterdam Noord
If you fancy a small and free boat trip (children love it) to the other side of the water.. you can take the ferry to the Northern part of Amsterdam.. It leaves behind central station and brings you to NDSM Dock. This is only a small part of Noord. The Nothern area around the IJ water is an upcoming part of Amsterdam with Art and Festivals in the summer and lots of new restaurants.

NDSM Ferry - Neef Louis
In the Northern part you'll also find Neef louis and Van Dijk en Ko. Check out their websites to see where they are located and to get an impression before you take a bus from Central Station. (Or hire a bike and take it with you on the ferry)
