SPRMRKT Amsterdam is coming back!

With so many shops disappearing from Amsterdam lately it is great to hear that one of the most iconic stores SPRMRKT AMSTERDAM is coming back to town this Spring/Summer! Keep an eye on the Instagram account @sprmrktamsterdam and founder @nellekestrijkers account. And have a look here to see what I wrote over 10 years ago when visiting the store when it was located at Rozengracht.

Gaggenau essential induction cooktop x dekton launch at Cosentino City

When I was asked to report on Living Kitchen at imm Cologne in 2019. I first heard about this new development in cooking: an ‘invisible’ cooktop, but after that I personally didn’t hear much about it anymore. I was therefore very pleased when I received an invitation to the official presentation of the Gaggenau Essential Induction, a unique new development in the kitchen for which Cosentino and Gaggenau joined forces.

Gaggenau, a brand we know for its high-quality household appliances, launched the Essential Induction, an invisible induction cooktop that can be seamlessly and exclusively integrated into Dekton worktops.

At the Cosentino City in Amsterdam we were introduced to this new and flexible way of cooking, which really appeals to me as a lover of minimal design and clean surfaces. A real aesthetic design choice!

The cooktop is seamlessly integrated into the Dekton worktop, which. I thought it was beautiful in itself. Together they form a minimalist masterpiece with just one LED light point that intuitively links the front-mounted controls to the cooking zone in use.

Visit the Mood Garden in Amsterdam 2-4 november

Visit the Mood Garden in Amsterdam

Who else would like to escape autumn and misses Summer. Let yourself be enchanted by the MOOD GARDEN in Amsterdam. In this green oasis of no less than 270 m2, located on the forecourt of the RAI Amsterdam on the Europaplein side, you will be immersed in a world full of color, scent and emotion.  discover how flowers and plants can positively influence your mood and experience for yourself what flowers and plants in your home can do for you.

We all know how important it is to have more greenery and less concrete in our cities. More greenery means richer biodiversity, better water collection and cooling during heat waves. Given climate change, this is now even more relevant than ever. The motto seems to be: tiles out, plants in. Flowers and plants also have a positive effect in the home. Research shows that a space filled with flowers and houseplants can reduce stress and anxiety, improve concentration and put you in a positive mood.

Mood Garden

The Mood Garden will open its doors from 2 to 4 November on behalf of Bloemenbureau Holland and the Nederlandse sierteeltsector (Flower Council of Holland and the Dutch floriculture sector). In a huge greenhouse you take a journey through four different zones, each designed to embrace and strengthen your emotions.

Discover the zones with the help of an audio tour and be overwhelmed by the positive power of flowers and plants on your mood and well-being. During this real-life experience, all your senses are stimulated with images, sounds, smells and textures. You can even dangle it as a hanging plant for the ultimate zen feeling. The best news, MOOD GARDEN entrance is free to enter! The doors open on November 2 at noon and you can visit the garden daily between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. until November 4

Grand & Johnson Design Studio and Atelier (STORE CLOSED / STUDIO & ATELIER MOVED)

Previously I introduced Grand & Johnson. The studio specialized in large-scale renovation and new construction of both homes and offices, and with a showroom in Amsterdam, has grown into an intimate team of interior designers under the leadership of Bertel Grote. Where all details come together and form a unity. A design with a story and small world in itself where the team is constantly looking for balance in contours, shapes, light, colors and materials.

The Atelier - A new concept at Grand&Johnson

Earlier this year, Grand & Johnson launched a new concept in their space in De Hallen: the Atelier In addition to furniture and custom work, an Artworks collection was launched under the direction of stylist Rianne Landstra

In collaboration with Rianne, an Atelier has been made of the ground floor. The Atelier has taken shape through her professional experience in interior productions, styling homes and sourcing the most special objects. Rianne has put together an Artworks collection in the Atelier, consisting of photography, paintings, objects and accessories. These personal works have been selected from the collections of various renowned artists. All works can be seen in the Atelier and for sale for a number of months. After that, a new collection will be put together. Each item is an indispensable addition to your interior.

Artist-in-residence

The space invites creative interpretation and attention is also given to passionate craftsmen; Artist-in-residence. From Wednesday to Saturday, various artists will work in the space to show how their artworks are created, be ready to meet VazenvanJanssen and VANRYS, among others.

Style rooms

And of course Grand&Johnson will show its concept. Designing, customization and styling. Everything comes together in the style rooms where Grand & Johnson shows its own collections alongside international brands such as Molteni, Flexform, Agape, JEE-O and more. An interplay of scents, colours, materials and details; everything created to let you experience what is possible and feel what suits you. To make you wonder. Something I experience every time visiting Grand&Johnson.
People want to marvel. Grand&Johnson pays tribute to wonderment. An ode to that which adds colour to life. The unexpected, the engrossment, the details, that is what we aim for in each design. By changing the perspective and by colouring outside the lines. It is an art to be able to marvel.
For us, no design is self-evident. Rather, it is a world of its own, in which the beautiful can turn into the breathtaking, silence passes over into serenity and excitement becomes exhilaration once more. A world in which to see things you have never seen before. - Grand&Johnson

The Atelier and the Design Studio are both located in the fantastic Grand&Johnson space in the monumental tram depot, De Hallen. A beautiful old and industrial building with many historical elements and a lively center for media, culture, fashion, design, catering and craft.

Stuart Amsterdam | Showroom for Interior professionals | Diemen area

norr11 showroom Amsterdam

This week I visited a new showroom for interior professionals in Amsterdam-Diemen. STUART (in full STUART Amsterdam Interior Hub) is an initiative of four

entrepreneurs from the interior industry who have joined forces. On 400m2 and a 150m2 roof terrace they created an inspiring interior environment for interior designers, architects, stylists, retailers, project designers and professional clients.

SHOWROOM

In addition to being a great work location (working showroom), STUART is above all a place

where interior design enthusiasts can see different design collections curated by the four founders of the concept: Remco Beekers from Charles & More, Guido Kroos from Milani Ruimte Inrichters, Pim Bakker from Fourmost Agency and Roger Roquas of BOND Interior.

Rogier explains: “Remco and I both needed more space to better show what we do. For NORR11, one of the brands of which I am an agent for the Netherlands, I had been looking for some time for a showroom in Amsterdam. We quickly saw the potential of this location and have involved Pim and Guido in order to create another more attractive location and a wider range of brands and to be able to offer services for the interior professional.”

Nuura

Pim adds: “With my agency I represent a broad package to brands. Now that the international fairs are cancelled, I still want to offer my customers the opportunity to view and experience the collections. At STUART I present my brands Million, Jonas Ihreborn, Nuura lighting and Pholc.”

BUSINESS TO BUSINESS

STUART is aimed at the professional client and (interior) architect. Consumers are welcome, together with (or after referral from) a interior designer, architect or project designer.

The ground floor is really furnished as a showroom with the - mainly Scandinavian - brands from Rogier and Pim. Remco and Guido work in their offices on the first and second floor “working showroom” and you end up in a more business environment, where beautiful interior collections, acoustic solutions and office innovations are on display..

Remco: “Interior architects and designers can come to us for advice and implementation of their projects. We think along for projects like this as efficient, creative, sustainable and successful as possible. We can take care of the total furnishing and supply all disciplines ranging from

furniture, customization and lighting to floor and wall systems”.

Guido: “When Remco and Rogier approached me with the idea of bundling at a super cool location in Amsterdam, I was immediately hooked. I strongly believe in creating a platform together with like-minded people created for the professional interior design enthusiast. Our Italian furniture brands such as Martex, Kastel, Fornasarig, Diemme, Milani and Livoni and MUTE's high-end acoustic solutions fit seamlessly into the concept and appearance of STUART.

Unique for this location is the roof terrace where visitors can enjoy sunny weather be welcome for a drink and be able to take a seat on the outdoor furniture

from BRYCK, among others.

Elle La interiors | Old West area - De Hallen (CLOSED)

MALIAN TEXTILES

Inspired by age-old textile traditions from the Dogon region near Burkina Faso, where the Dogon people live and wanting to support the artisans who uphold these traditions Amsterdam based Ella Hustinx founded Elle La in the Summer of 2020 and recently opened their showroom at de Hallen.

Surprisingly Ella happened to live in the same area as me and was so kind to drop by my home to show me her work personally and tell me more about the artisans and the natural ingredients used for the cotton she now creates cushions and wall hangings from. For the production she teamed up with local Atelier Made Here and thrift store De Lokatie

The showroom at De hallen is closed, items are available at the Ella La Webshop

Open for appointment every Monday and Wednesday from 09:00 - 19:00.

Made locally with recycled filling

The cotton is hand - picked, spun and woven with local looms in strips about 15 centimeters wide and then coloured using the Bogolan technique where mud is mixed with natural dyes from tree bark, indigo leaves and plants. What I saw were the most beautiful pure colours: terra, indigo, cream and pale black and rolls with that little touch of 'irregularity' you only see when something is handmade.

Ella designs all products herself and they are made in collaboration with Atelier Made Here, a studio based in Amsterdam East, where refugee tailors from mainly Syria stitch the pillows together. Ella: "Supporting the local economy by working with a local manufacturer enables us to reduce emissions, and produce on a smaller scale, based on real demand.

Elle carefully chooses her materials, aiming for naturalness, longevity and durability. The filling is recycled down feathers. In collaboration with the Amsterdam based thrift-shop De Lokatie we collect second- hand feather bedding which is cleaned and purified by bedding company Ducky dons in accordance with the ‘Responsible Down Standard’ (RDS).

Piet Boon bathroom Showroom | Amsterdam area

I previously posted these images of the Piet Boon Bathroom Showroom on my personal website vosgesparis.com In addition to their kitchen, living and outdoor showrooms, the new 500 square meters Piet Boon Bathroom showroom is an important addition to the Studio Piet Boon portfolio.

Italian design brand Salvatori is one of the leading design companies specialized in natural stone and is always on my must visited list during Milan Design week and I was happy to see them been invited by Piet Boon to open its first flagship store in The Netherlands. Salvatori and Piet Boon share a very similar taste for beauty and passion for timeless and quality design which have led to this venture.

For over thirty years, the bathroom has been an important part of the interiors designed by Studio Piet Boon. In line with the studio's design philosophy and passion for rich natural materials, craftsmanship, innovative textures and color combinations, this vision comes to life in the new Piet Boon Bathroom showroom. Here, soothing tone-on-tone colours obtained with luxurious materials match the contemporary design of the space where , layered combinations of textures and accessories take center stage.

The showroom displays the complete Piet Boon concept, in which various products, such as taps and bathroom mirrors complement indispensable and functional components including tiles, washbasins and bathtubs, collaborations with the brand's long time partners such as Cocoon, Douglas & Jones, Formani and Senso. Different compositions and very unique products, such as the marble bathtub carved out of a single piece of natural stone, and the clear coordination of the color palette, are a testament to the passion for comfort and timeless design.

Piet Boon: "The desire to be able to show a comprehensive Piet Boon concept under one roof has been at the top of my wish list. About a year ago, we started working on the first ideas to develop and design a total concept for our bathroom showroom. It is an honour to be able to work with such beautiful and skilled partners and to be able to present a complete Piet Boon world"

Utrechtsestraat | Aesop Skincare

I couldn't more happier when Aesop Skincare store in Amsterdam openend its doors! It is actually the first Aesop store in the Netherlands and I am so happy Aesop choose the historical former Jamin candy store at Utrechtsestraat to be their location. Jamin used to be a really wel know candy store with different locations and the in 1911 renovated location at Utrechtsestraat is known as the best preserved Jamin store. Both the exterior and interior in neo Lodewijk XVI style are original including the mosaic floor.

Aesop is an Australian company known for its high-end plant-based products for body & hair I discovered some years ago and have been a fervent user ever since. No need to tell you I am really happy we finally have our very own Amsterdam store!
